Missionary Update: Willene Byrd

Bobby and Willene Byrd moved to Guatemala in August of 2010 to establish World Reach Missions and further the Gospel in Central America. Last week Willene became ill and was hospitalized in Guatemala City. After tests, the doctors found kidney stones. Willene flew to Charlotte on Saturday and is receiving IV antibiotics at home as the doctors evaluate her recovery over the next couple of weeks. A decision on removing the stones will be made in the near future.

Please keep Willene and the Byrd family in your prayers as they move through the recovery process. Also continue to pray for those who have been touched by World Reach Missions as God uses this to further His kingdom.

Donuts with Dad

As part of our +1 local initiative at Hickory Grove elementary school, Michelle Jones, Richard Contreras, Kyle Scarlett, Arnold Kessler, and Mike Williams took part in their donuts with dads program this past Thursday morning.  Our objectives with this partnership have been to engage the immediate community around Main Campus with the sole purposes of building relationships, sharing Christ, and making disciples.  Donuts with Dad allowed us the opportunity to have positive interaction with the administration of HGES and to meet literally hundreds of father figures in the community in which our main campus sits.  God is also opening up other doors for the Gospel over at HGES as several of their families are now coming to our Wednesday night ESL classes, several of our staff our working one on one to reach specific students through their Reading Buddies program, accepting weekly prayer requests from their staff members, promoting HGBC programs such as Fall Festival and HG sports seasons, and more!  We are truly excited about our past , present, and future opportunities to engage the families and staff over at Hickory Grove Elementary school.

Ukraine Missions Commissioning

Wednesday, September 5, 2o12 the Ukraine mission team was commissioned at North Campus during the evening service. Continue to keep this team in your prayers as they are serving this week. They will be gone September 6-15th doing evangelism and discipleship throughout the cities in Ukraine.

Honduras Team Update: Day 7

On day 7 we took the kids from the shelter and the farm the local water park. The kids had a great time playing in the pool, sliding down the slides, playing soccer and just hanging out. It rained on and off but that didn’t slow any of them down! We all had a great time hanging out with them outside of the shelter and the kids loved it. It was a great way to end the week! We can’t wait to go back next year!

Operation Charlotte 2012 Recap

Last week over 70 students at Main Campus sacrificed three days of their summer to partner with surrounding organizations in the Charlotte area to do local mission work. The students went out of their comfort zone to reach people through the CUP Ministry, LA Food Bank, Jackson Park, Alexander Youth Network, Inspiration Station, Queens Grant and Hickory Grove’s Day Camp VBS. God used the students to spread the gospel and bring people to Christ. Watch this video recap of the week and like HGStudents on Facebook to see more pictures.

Peru Team Update: Day 7

Our team woke early again and headed to the first of two privet Christian schools. We led worship for over 100 students in high school. We also did our chicken skit which they enjoyed. After the skit our translator Bruno presented the gospel to those in the school. We then sang some more songs before we finished. Before the students were dismissed the one of the principles told the students that the gospel had been presented to them and they had no excuse and say they have not heard it. We then ran across camps to do a puppet show for the kindergarten students. Our team was in shock as the fifty or so students walked in silently and in a single file line. Our worship team did one song before we started the puppets. We then went to another school where we had another service for the students around high school age. Our worship team did a great job leading worship and then Evan taught.

The last stop we had before we headed to the airport was the orphanage. It was a great way to end our trip. We started with a tour of the facility and the intern gave us more background on the orphanage and the children there. Our worship team started out with a few songs in Spanish and then a few in English. Then a few games were played with the older kids while some of the girls took care of the younger ones. Evan taught once more after the worship team sang another song to calm down the kids. After our service we handed out candy, toothpaste, and toothbrushes to the kids and left the extras with the leaders of the orphanage.

The orphanage was the best way to end our trip. The team finial made it home Saturday night around 9:30 after some delayed flights and missed connections. God had his hand on our team while we were traveling and he showed our team that he is sovereign over the airlines. Thank you for praying for us while we were there in Peru. Please continue to pray for Peru, for those we were in contact with, for the churches and pastors we worked with, and for us. Pray that God will continue to work and move in their hearts and in ours. Pray that God will provide in unexpected ways for the believers in Peru. Pray that God will call more people in Peru to him self and to the harvest because the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
